Operational Artificial Intelligence OAI
The main focus of QRED consists of the development of operational artificial intelligence algorithms (OAI).
But what is operational artificial intelligence?
Let's start from its origins, from Latin:
Intelligent is the present participle of intelligere = "to understand"
composed of:
inter = "between" or intus = "inside"
legere = "to choose", "to read, understand"
To simplify: intelligence is knowing how to read and understand nature and things.
The word “intelligence” was then attributed not only with the meaning of reading and thoroughly understanding nature and things, but also with the meaning of a processing capacity that generates interconnections and ideas in the brains of sentient beings.
The intelligence we recognize today can be divided into two macro categories:
> Creative or Intuitive Intelligence
> Operational Intelligence
Creative Intelligence is the faculty that allows sentient beings to elaborate new ideas and original solutions, from the simplest to the most complex, in any field. Human ingenuity belongs to this faculty.
Operational intelligence is the type of intelligence that humans, or animals in general, apply when they have to perform routine tasks, for example
- identifying an object for the first time by assimilating its shape and size in space and time
- recognizing and picking up that object placed in any position in three-dimensional space
- learning how to perform codified operations on the object
Afferent organs, cerebral areas of the brain, sensory cortex and motor cortex are involved in operational activities, which are managed by appropriate algorithms, i.e. coded logical sequences of operations.
With this criterion, human operational intelligence can be transposed into machines using the term Operational Artificial Intelligence (IAO)
Building machines with operational artificial intelligence is possible: machines that recognize objects and operate autonomously on them, choosing ad hoc operational strategies.
It is wise to remember that operational artificial intelligence is built by man. Humans write the algorithms to process and connect information stored in databases.
Creative Intelligence is not a prerogative of machines.
We design and build a new type of operational artificial intelligence algorithms (OAI) and devices that become an extension of humans.
